OIL PAINTINGS OF THE CANADIAN LANDSCAPE.
Welcome to my "blog". That apron I'm wearing is circa 1970's..I'm a little older 1937 to be exact.
Paintings from the many places that I have travelled in Canada. Most done in 'plein air"
I have painted in this area and
introduced other artists to it's
splendors. It is in the northeast
section of the park and the
views are fantastic. You stand on cliffs about 400 feet above the Barron River, favoured by canoeists.
I have done a large painting of
the canyon showing it's
immensity. Definitely worth a
A wonderful old barn on the
outskirts of Picton. Notice the fieldstone foundation and the
pointed roof. I believe this is called a "hip barn" there are a
few of these in "The County".
I see many barns without their
silo tops, I wonder why that is?
The barn is still in use, at least
there were some large horses
This painting came completely from my imagination and I entered it in the AITC Juried Show.
The Maid on the Swan represents Mother Nature pointing in the direction of the constellation Cygnus. Her robe is multi-coloured representing the colours of our world. She is flying above The Milky Way.
Seapoint is a "hidden gem" near
Kittery. Maine. Part of the beach is very rocky with lots of tidal pools, the other part is sandy and suitable for swimming. When the tide is up it reaches the rocks in the foreground. The various natural levels of beach "stuff" was challenging to paint. Rocks in shade, rocks in sun, seaweed, sand strip, more seaweed, a thin strip of sand and rocks at the waters edge
Many Newfoundland outports have houses "perched' on the rocky hillsides overlooking an anchorage. At one time these outports were serviced by costal
steamer only. Times have changed, with the arrival of roads and electricity.
The Four Elements are; Fire, Wind, Water and
Earth. I have tried to show man's presence in the painting
by putting a "Newfie Piper" kettle on the
Fire. My family used this kettle in many camping
and fishing trips.
This painting is named "?". The front panel shows the Milky Way Galaxy. Earth is in the Orion Arm of this galaxy. In the Universe there are many galaxys and in this one Earth is but a dust mote. Why then are we pillaging our planet? Given the size of the galaxy or the universe, do we think we are the only ones in it? Questions to ponder.
Once opened, the painting displays the "Blue Planet" and the cracks in the ozone layer. The panels on either side have the same scene. One is lush and verdant, the other hot and dry with little greenery. There is a small touch of green in the right corner of the right panel. Is this a REBIRTH or is it the DEATH of our world as we know it.
